This mission was at the heart of our first webinar, which spotlighted sustainability, a critical issue for the industry. Speakers Martin Wachter, CEO of GoldenRace, and Rodrigo Recio, representative of the NGO Plántalo, addressed the environmental impact of the betting industry and presented practical solutions.

The true cost of paper

Did you know that thousands of trees are cut down every year just for betting tickets? Retail shops worldwide print millions of tickets daily, leaving a significant environmental footprint.

Some days customers print more than 15 million betting slips for our products. That’s a lot of paper, and where’s it coming from? Yes, trees.

To address these concerns, GoldenRace developed In-shop Mobile, an innovative solution that eliminates the need for printed tickets. The tool allows players to scan a QR code, access betting options on their smartphones and manage bets through an e-wallet. It not only reduces paper waste but also faces common operational issues such as high traffic during peak hours - especially with popular games like Virtual Football - limited shop space and hardware costs.

"One of our partners told me, ‘Martin, you have to know we pay more money for the paper every day than we pay you on revenue share.’ That’s simply not sustainable," Wachter noted.

Planting a better future

GoldenRace’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at reducing paper. The company has partnered with Plántalo, an NGO specialising in reforestation, to plant 365 trees annually - one for each day of the year.

The first 65 trees will be planted in Teruel, Spain, in a region affected by wildfires and soil erosion. The remaining trees are planned for the Colombian Amazon, where deforestation has significantly impacted biodiversity. Both regions where GoldenRace has offices.

Every ticket saved and every tree planted rebuilds ecosystems and contributes to the fight against climate change. As Rodrigo explained on the webinar "Planting a tree every single day of the year is going to be a huge difference for the whole climate. At Plantálo, we work to rebuild ecosystems, not just by planting trees but by creating biodiversity".
